"Flashback" a selection of recovery song
South East Alternatives (SEA), Gorbals

SEA is a community based rehabilitation centre which provides a service to individuals who have previously lived chaotic lifestyles through substance misuse.  A structured programme or recovery is offered which enables them to maintain stability in their lives.  The music therapy group class helps services users reintegrating themselves back into their communities successfully through drug-free independent living. 

The group has produced and published songs and poems about their recovery journey which will be read at the event along with a celebration of the success of this publication.

Pathways to recovery 1: current issues and Scottish drug policy gaps in provision and the Scottish attitude to recovery, Stirling University

Netta Maciver (Chief Executive of TPS), Tracy Lundie (Midway Service Manager) and Sophia Young (SEA Service Manager) will lead this seminar focusing on how recovery in mental health services led TPS to review the place of recovery in our other services. Recovery language in substance work has often been associated with abstinence based work. Our presentation will share what we have done in mental health work, what we are doing in substance work and what TPS organisationally has done to embed recovery as a way of thinking afresh in the wider organisation.

Launch of Alison's Story, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Edinburgh

Following TPS's successful Recovery Conference in May 2007 a service user acknowledged their desire to pen their journey of recovery.  Extracts of Alison's story will be read at the Storytelling Centre followed by a workshop based around the area of service user involvement.

Futures Evening, Kirkcudbright Academy

Dumfries & Galloway Learning Disability Services have been invited to exhibit at an open evening in Kirkcudbright Academy along with other agencies and services.  Young people aged 14 to 18 years old and their families from Castle Douglas High, Dalbeattie High and Kirkcudbright Academy have been invited to attend this event to find out what is available in Dumfries and Galloway for young people with additional support needs when they move into adult life.  The event will provide an informal opportunity to pick up information and ask questions.

Joint conference between SWIA (Social Work Inspection Agency), CCPS (Community Care Providers Scotland) and Changing Lives - Hilton Grosvenor, Edinburgh

Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years, who has social care and the Changing Lives agenda within his portfolio of responsibilities, will speak on the day.  The conference will consider the current context for organisations working in the voluntary social care sector, hearing from Annie Gunner, Director of CCPS and others working directly in the sector.  It will also discuss the recently published SWIA report, Governance Review of Turning Point Scotland.  Jennifer Crowson, SWIA Inspector will discuss how the review was undertaken and Netta Maciver, Chief Executive and Jennifer Truesdale, Corporate Services Manager, both of TPS will discuss how they experienced the review, why the organisation asked for the review and what was taken from the experience.  A draft self assessment model of governance for voluntary social care organisations will be table for discussion and consultation with all delegates.
