HD, Early Onset Dementia, ABI - life experiences

A service user talks of their experience of SHAPE:

They have good communication skills, they listen and give me time to express my concerns and issues. They always take into account my opinions and view point.

Before my involvement with SHAPE I thought my life was over. They have given me reasons to progress my rehabilitation at my own pace and with a kind understanding on personal issues, when required, often exceeding their actual job requirements

A sister of a service user wrote:

My brother is a more confident and independent person as a result of SHAPE support. SHAPE are great at responding to needs as incidents arise, whether they be a domestic plumbing issue or a medical/ hospital visit. Despite many staff changes the continuity of the service has been marvellous.

The SHAPE service is a lifeline for my brother to live happily and safely in his own home. This in turn relieves the anxiety and responsibility of his family who would otherwise have to be more involved on a daily basis which would curb his independence. We are very grateful to SHAPE for providing this service, and in such a friendly and unobtrusive manner.

A family summed up their gratitute by coining an anagram for SHAPE but they came up with too many appropriate adjectives to describe the work and efforts and what the service means to them.  Here are some of them:

S    sincerity, security, service, socialisation, success
H    helpful, honest, homely, humorous
A    assistance, approachable, available, activities, affirmative, advancement
P    people oriented, personable, progressive, quietly persuasive
E    encouragement, enlightment, endeavours, enthusiasm, unstinting efforts
