Mental Health and Wellbeing Award

It is estimated that 15-20% of the working population will experience mental health issues in any one year and virtually anyone is susceptible.  A positive working environment and appropriate support at work has a significant impact on reducing workplace stress and improving long term outcomes for employees experiencing mental health problems. A positive working environment is essentially about good management practices characterised by respect and value for staff, meaningful consultation, and staff involvement and participation in decision making.

Last year Turning Point Scotland received the SHAW Bronze Award, to build on this Turning Point Scotland are now focusing on the Mental Health and Wellbeing Award. In order to achieve this we will:

  • Implement a workplace mental health and wellbeing policy-which involves creating a culture of discussing mental health and removing barriers of employment for people with a history of mental health
  • Consult with staff during the policy development and communicate the policy to staff.
  • Conduct a stress risk assessment/stress audit and produce an annual action plan to tackle any organisational issues. The stress audit will be in a questionnaire format and will be sent to Turning Point Scotland staff.
  • Provide mental health awareness activities for all staff and specific training for managers.
