Self-directed support was introduced in 2014 to give people using social care more choice and control.

So far the new flexibility has not been used much for people in the criminal justice system.

Turning Point Scotland is trying to innovate in this area and has gone into partnership with an organisation called Outside the Box and Glasgow Community Justice Authority to look at how Self-directed support could be used with people in the criminal justice system.

While individuals may not be able to have choice in all aspects of their support, for example probation services, but they could have more choice in mental health or addictions services.

The new partnership will be called Moving Forward and will run for 3 years.
