New alcohol and rehabilitation service opens its doors

11 May 2009

Garscube House, a residential alcohol and rehabilitation service provided by Turning Point Scotland (TPS), is holding its official opening day on Friday 15 May 2009.

The newly decorated, modern facility began taking residents on the 12 January this year and is now fully operational with all ten places filled.  Both residents and staff are delighted with the fantastic building and are keen to welcome visitors.

Between the hours of 10am and 12.30pm and 2pm and 4pm on Friday, 15 May 2009, residents will show visitors round the accommodation and in the afternoon guests will be invited to try out the alternative therapies available to residents.

Garscube House is a service aimed at men and women over 18 years who are homeless and have a history of alcohol dependence but wish to change their lifestyle by taking part in a programme based on abstinence from all alcohol and drugs.

The service operates to a target length stay of nine months, however completion of the programme is based on the individual's progress.  The programme is divided into different stages and service users can access or complete the programme dependant on their individual support plan.  The length of time residents spend in each stage will depend on their individual needs and how quickly the goals identified for each stage of treatment are achieved. Regular key working, support planning and reviews support the process of progression through the programme and assists the residents recovery journey.

Elaine Forbes, Service Manager of the new homelessness service said:  "Garscube House is an excellent service which caters to meet the needs of individuals as they aim to change their lifestyles.  The accommodation provided is fantastic and complements the range of support and activities that assists residents in their recovery journey.

"The open day is a chance for us to welcome other members of staff and stakeholders and let them see for themselves the kind of service we provide.  During the 10th anniversary year of Turning Point Scotland, it is great to be able to introduce new services to the vast array already provided by the organisation.
