18 June 2009

The new Dumfries offices of social care charity Turning Point Scotland (TPS) will be officially opened on Tuesday 23rd June to coincide Learning Disability Week (22-28 June 2009) The opening ceremony takes place as 12pm at Newall House, 22 Newall Terrace, Dumfries, DG1 1LW.

Turning Point Scotland, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, provides support to adults with a range of complex needs including those affected by learning disabilities, mental health issues, autism and substance misuse.

The new offices are based in the centre of Dumfries and incorporate new training and integrated IT facilities and allow all managers to be based within the same building.

As part of the opening ceremony, the charity will also sign up to ARC Scotland's (Association for Real Change Scotland) Charter for Involvement.

This Charter was developed by the National Involvement Network, a group of 19 agencies who support people with learning difficulties and other groups.

It sets out guidelines to ensure that people who access services are heard and have the right to have their say on the support they receive.

Dave Bleasdale, Turning Point Scotland Operations Manager said: "We are delighted to be officially opening our new offices in Dumfries during Learning Disability Week.

"The new premises provide staff with a lot more space and allow all of our managers to based under the same roof. This will help us to provide a more streamlined approach and build on the range of services we currently provide in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

"It seemed fitting to use this opportunity to sign up for ARC Scotland's charter for involvement. We are committed working with ARC Scotland over the next two years to put the Charter into practice and build on the work we've done over the last ten years of involving people better in determining their lives.
