Fergus Ewing visits SEASTAR in Kilmarnock
25 January 2010
The Minister for Community Safety, Fergus Ewing visited one of our substance misuse services as part of his first trip this year to the Alcohol and Drug Partnerships.
At SEASTAR in Kilmarnock, Fergus said:
"Dealing with Scotland's drugs problem is not straightforward. The problem (drugs) is immense and it's a difficult one.
"The journey on the road to recovery is difficult and it's a long one. Relapse is often part of that journey. It's a tough job and things might go wrong along the way, but you will get there."
SEASTAR has three sites across Ayrshire and provides treatment and supports to adults experiencing substance misuse issues. In Kilmarnock the office is located in the town centre and offers prescribing, alternative therapies and one to one support.
East Ayrshire has the highest drug prevalence rates and it also has the second biggest prescribing drug budget.
We met with a young woman and her mother. She has attended SEASTAR for quite a while now and is on the road to recovery. Her life is less chaotic now and she talks positively of the support she has received. Her mother was pleased with her daughter's achievements and said they didn't know where they would be without the help of SEASTAR.
