Recovery

What is Recovery?
Recovery is being able to live a meaningful and satisfying life, as defined by each person, in the presence or absence of symptoms.  It is about having control over and input into your own life.

Each individual's recovery, like his or her experience of mental ill health or substance misuse is a unique and deeply personal process.  It is important to be clear that there is no right or wrong way to recover.

We support service user's identify their desired life.  Then we support them to plan, step by step, how they might achieve their goals with the support of those around them.

Recovery doesn't necessarily mean being 'cured' or living without medication or support.  It does mean being in charge of your own life, with real choices under your control.

We believe that the concept of recovery encourages a positive person centred and holistic model of service delivery that concentrates on the individuals abilities and strengths.

TPS's recovery vision
TPS's vision for recovery is one that encourages people who use or have used services to accept responsibility for themselves so that they can take control of their own decisions.  We accept that all people have periods of distress, however, that does not mean you have to become a permanent service user.

We accept that some people experience distress caused by clinical conditions that require medical intervention, but do not accept that once people are in this position that they will always be incapable of making their own life decisions.

TPS wish to provide suitable facilities and support for people who wish to consider taking a journey of recovery.  TPS does not intend to force anyone into making decisions but intends to engender a positive 'can do' attitude in all its services. This will allow people who wish to embark on a recovery journey to develop the confidence in themselves and in their supports that will enable them to do so with a greater chance of success.
