Renfrewshire Housing Support opened in December 2012 and is commissioned by Renfrewshire Council.

Staff offer support to people, aged 18 and over, who have experienced homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless in the Renfrewshire area.

Having a permanent tenancy can give people a sense of belonging, increasing feelings of self-worth and making a person feel part of their community.

We understand that people can face barriers and experience stigma at different times in their life and recognise the importance of not making judgements or assumptions about a person. We offer guidance and encouragement to enable people to take control of their life whilst listening to the person’s feelings and respecting the choices they make. The individual is always at the centre of everything we do.

There are many factors that can contribute to a person experiencing homelessness therefore staff offer a wide range of support to individuals with complex needs. We support people at various stages in their life and who are going through their own journey of recovery.

As well as providing support with the practical aspects of maintaining a tenancy, people are also offered support to access services relating to mental health, addictions and social opportunities.

Many services users have been supported to find something in their life which is meaningful to them and this can be through voluntary work, education or employment. The emphasis is always on what the individual wishes to have in their life, at a time when they are ready for it.

“I don’t know where I would be without the support from the staff”

“For the first time in my life I don’t feel judged and there’s not an imbalance of power. I feel that I now have control over my own life”

“I don’t know where I would have ended up, having the support has turned my life around”
