Renfrewshire - Weavers Mill

Background

The original Renfrewshire Learning Disability Service was established in partnership with Renfrewshire Council in June 2001 to support individuals being resettled from long stay learning disability hospitals such as Merchiston Hospital. Such has been the successful growth of the service, it was divided into two separate and distinct projects, and each registered separately with the care commission.

Weavers Mill provides Housing Support and Support Services to 24 individuals. The support packages may include the person living on their own with one, two or three others. People live in ordinary houses, which may be internally adapted to suit needs. Housing is provided either by Renfrewshire Council or by locally based housing associations with each with each individual having their own secure housing occupancy agreement.

Each person has a Key Worker who will co-ordinate and plan supports. This process is Person Centered in its approach and will involve and will involve all those who have an input into the person's life. The person will always remain at the heart of the plan the aim is to facilitate achievement of dreams and aspirations of individuals.

Turning Point Scotland is committed to ensuring all staff are appropriately qualified and experienced to provide support. We have a comprehensive induction and continual professional development programme. We are well on our way to achieving the Scottish Social Services Council's regulations on having a fully qualified workforce.

The services extend widely throughout Renfrewshire specifically, Linwood, Johnstone, Bridge of weir and Kilbarchan. We support people to become more involved and take an active role in their local community.
