Big River Project:

The Big River Project offers a Borders wide service which will work positively and flexibly with individuals who are experiencing difficulties due to their substance misuse.

We offer:

Individual Casework

  • One to one ongoing support from a named worker to address issues around drug misuse
  • Practical and emotional support
  • Advice and information
  • Signposting on to other agencies
  • Advocacy support
  • Move on options

We also offer support, information and advice for family members who are affected by someone else's drug use.

Needle Exchange

  • Access to clean injecting equipment
  • Harm reduction advice and information
  • Sexual health advice
  • Access to blood borne virus testing and support in partnership with NHS Borders

Duty/Open Access

  • No appointment needed between 1pm and 4pm
  • Crisis intervention
  • Support and advice
  • Referrals taken or referred on to other agencies

Access to Telephone

  • Ability to contact other agencies

Access to Internet/Computer

  • This can be used to create a CV or to jobsearch

Complementary Therapies

  • Auricular acupuncture
  • Indian Head Massage
  • Reiki
  • Visualisations

Hours of Service

The project is open:
Monday to Wednesday:         9.00 am to 5.00 pm
Thursday:                               9.00am to 8.00 pm (5pm to 8pm for needle exchange)
Friday:                                     9.00am to 4.30pm

One to one appointments are offered at various locations throughout the Borders.

The project has a 24 hour answer phone service. If you leave a message we will call you back as soon as possible.
