Glasgow Drug Crisis Centre

Situated in the heart of Glasgow, the Glasgow Drugs Crisis Centre (GDCC) offers short term detoxification, rehabilitation, stabilisation and a needle exchange service.

Central to Turning Point Scotland's approach is that there is no single method of dealing with substance misuse and it is for this reason that we provide a number of services:

  • 24 hour advice information and support
  • 24 hour assessment
  • Detoxification and stabilisation
  • 24 hour needle exchange
  • GP clinics
  • One Stop service
  • Residential unit
  • Outpatient methadone clinic for those who have left the residential unit
  • Well woman clinic
  • Community podiatry
  • Specialist abscess and ulcer clinic

The One Stop service:
People with substance misuse issues can get advice and help from the centre 24 hours a day.  The One Stop service will provide on the spot information on a range of issues including legal services, health, housing and harm reduction.

Needle exchange:
Used injecting equipment can be disposed of safely and exchanged for new ones.  We can also put you in touch with other agencies in the city.

Residential unit:
Admission to the unit will be considered if service users are no longer coping in the community and require greater input that can be provided by community based services.  If the service user's personal safety is at risk through chaotic drug use, then the service of the residential unit may be offered.

The unit has space for 12 residents (male & female).  They receive 24 hour nursing and social care support and a personalised care plan is agreed with each resident.  An admission statement will state what both parties should expect.  This will include the length of stay, a group programme and discharge plan which will normally involve referral on to support services.   The maximum length of stay is normally 21 days.

It should be noted that there are no waiting lists or appointment times at GDCC and admission to the residential unit is made on the basis of priority need.

We also provide the following alternative therapies:

  • Auricular acupuncture
  • Aromatherapy
  • Relaxation sessions
