Northern Horizons
Northern Horizons offers a free and confidential specialist service for people who live in North Aberdeenshire and whose lives have been affected by drug misuse.
The main office is located in Peterhead althouth workers engage in outreach work to the surrounding areas of Fraserburgh, Turriff, Banff, Macduff and Portsoy.
The following services are provided:
- One to one counselling - counselling and structured group work addressing areas such as harm reduction, offending behaviour, stabilisation, relapse prevention, anger management, self esteem and confidence building.
- Employment development - supporting service users into employment, educational opportunities and training as well as looking at issues such as housing, benefits, childcare and social skills.
- Arrest referral scheme - this scheme offers help and support to anyone who is taken into custody. This service forms part of our 24 hour on-call system.
- Support, advice and information for parents, families, partners and friends of drug misusers is offered.
- Needle exchange - he exchange offers a safe disposal point for used needles. This is operated from both Peterhead and Banff. This service allows workers to build contacts with service users and offer advice on safer injecting and safer sex. Direct contact with an NHS nurse can be arranged for immunisation against blood borne pathogen such as Hepatitis B.

Mon, Wed & Thur 1500 -1700hrs, Tue 1700-1900 hrs & Fri 1400-1600 hrs
Banff
Tue & Thur 1700 - 2100 hrs
Referrals:
Referrals can be made to the service by GP's, Community Substance Misuse Team, Social Work, Criminal Justice Service, family, friends and also by self-referral.
Northern Horizons is funded by Aberdeenshire Council and NHS Grampian.
