SHAPE
The Scottish Huntington's Association's (SHA) Grampian Huntington's Advisory Service identified a need for a Housing Support Service for individuals affected by Huntington's disease. Following discussions with Abedeen City Council, Turning Point Scotland was successful in securing funding to create SHAPE in March 2003, to meet this need.
Supporting Huntington's and Promoting Equality (SHAPE) encourages independent living and inclusion in the community. The service aims to support individuals affected by Huntington's disease and other neurological conditions to live as independently as possible in the community. SHAPE aims to treat service users as individuals and to have their voice heard and choices respected.
SHAPE is funded by Supporting People grant which is paid via Aberdeen City Council.
Support provided includes:
- Assistance with arranging repairs, security and maintenance of their tenancy
- Promotion of life skills, for example assistance with food preparation, household tasks and shopping
- Support to attend appointments
- Assistance with money matters including benefits and budgeting
- Liaising with other professionals and arranging adaptations as necessary
- Supervisingwith medication
- Encouragement with positive community participation.
The service is available seven days a week from 0900 to 2100 hours, with an on call service also available within these hours.

The service is available for those who have Huntington's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), an Acquired Brain Injury or any other neurological condition. Referrals can come from care managers, social workers, the Grampian Huntington's Advisor or via the Geneticist at the hospital.
