South Ayrshire Supported Living Services
South Ayrshire Supported Living Service (SASLS) was set up when Turning Point Scotland were awarded part of the contract to provide supported living support to people moving from Arrol Park and Strathlea resource centres into their own houses.
SASLS provides support to people with learning disabilities in their own tenancies. The service receives funding from South Ayrshire Council to provide a package of care suited to individual needs. SASLS works closely with the retraction social worker and current support teams to identify how each service user can be supported to have a fulfilling life. This is done through empowerment and independence. A comprehensive support plan is put together and updated on a regular basis.
SASLS currently supports 11 service users (three of whom moved from living at home with their parents and who were previously supported by viewpoint) and has between 45-50 staff. Each service user lives in their own house supported by a small staff team of four or five. Staff teams are recruited to match as much as possible with service users and this is achieved by having a family member or someone who knows them well participating in the interview process.
Support is person centred and gives each individual the opportunity to live and socialise in their local community. Support can be offered for any or every area of an individual's life including:
- Personal care
- Socialising
- Maintaining family links
- Existing friendship and facilitating new relationships
- Facilitate outings and holidays.
