South Lanarkshire Learning Disability Service
South Lanarkshire Learning Disability Services (SLLDS) is based in East Kilbride and provides 24 hour supported living support to individuals who live in the Lindsayfield and Calderwood ares of East Kilbride and Burnbank area of Hamilton. The service began as a direct result of the hospital retraction programme, which led to the closure of Birkwood Hospital and the proposed closure of Kirklands Hospital.
The service has grown steadily since its inception in 2002, and now supports 15 people within their own homes, which requires a staff team of around 73.
SLLDS works closely in partnership with a number of other organisations which are listed below:

The housing is purpose built or adapted to meet the needs of the service users. The accommodation comprises a mix of bungalows and semi-detached houses. There are nine single tenancies and three shared tenancies, with a maximum of two people sharing.
SLLDS provides a person centred approach to service provision which results in a supported living model of support. Individuality, empowerment, choice and respect are key to the principles of the supported living model.
SLLDS also has Community Opportunities Team which provides a service supporting people with their educational, employment and social needs. Regular activities include a music workshop which has been a huge success and has now opened to the public. The Community Opportunities Service is available to all service users within the service and accepts referrals from outside.
Service users and their families have been involved in the design of the service from the very start and this continues with regular consultation which takes many forms: person centred planning meetings and events, regular group advocacy meetings facilitated by an outside agency and our stakeholder events.
