Viewpoint
Viewpoint is a service which helps people with learning disabilities in Ayr find friendship. The service aims to support people and their families to get the most out of life.
The service is funded by South Ayrshire Council to provide 160 hours support each week, with a maximum of ten hours per person. The service supports 35-40 users, some through the original core funding and others through ILF and other social work funding.
Viewpoint supports people to make links and friendships within their own communities and offers an alternative to traditional building based services.
The service offered is flexible and provides support to enable people access to:
- Education
- Leisure
- Employment opportunities.
Service is usually provided on a one to one basis although joint support can be arranged when service users wish. Our aim is to promote independence.
Viewpoint supports service users through a person centred planning approach. The inclusion of the service user and the people that know and care for them is crucial to the planning process. The process will result in the formulation of an individualised support plan. The plan may involve access to college courses or courses in the local community. It may involve:
- Joining a club that includes other people with a similar interest
- Travelling by public transport to visit places of interest
- Looking for job, either voluntary or paid
- Getting out and about to meet new friends
- Planning and doing something which the person has dreamed about doing all their life.
