Supporting Huntington’s and Promoting Equality (SHAPE) is a community based housing support service for adults who are living with a neurological condition.

SHAPE provides outreach support in all areas of Aberdeen City and aims to help people increase their independence in their own home and get the most out of life.

If you are living with a neurological condition within the Aberdeen area, SHAPE could help support you within your own home.

How can we help you?

We will arrange to meet at your home and offer support with your household tasks.  We will work alongside you so that you can improve your independence.

We can support you to:

  • Deal with mail/bills etc
  • Claim appropriate benefits
  • Budget/manage your debts/finances
  • Arrange repairs/furnish accommodation
  • Arrange home security/safety within the home
  • Carry out household chores
  • Deal with neighbour disputes
  • Shop/prepare food
  • Maintain links with family/friends
  • Look for alternative accommodation
  • Arrange to move house
  • Attend appointments
  • Meet with other professionals
  • General issues to do with your home

How can I access SHAPE?

You need to be referred to SHAPE.  Usually it is a Care Manager who contacts us but if you are seeing any social work or health professional they can refer you if you are living with a neurological condition.  (We can supply a leaflet for your referrer if they need our details:  please give us a call.)

How do I pay for the service?

The funding for SHAPE is provided by the Supporting People office which is part of Aberdeen City Council.  Aberdeen City Council will require you to have a financial assessment to see if you are eligible for exemption from charging or a reduced contribution.  Your Social Worker or Care Manager will carry out a financial assessment.

Once funding arrangements have been agreed, we will come and meet with you to discuss your needs and together we will agree how we can support you.

We work in partnership with the people we support which means responsibility and control is shared between us.

The service is available seven days a week from 9am - 9pm, with an on call service also available within these hours.
