The Inverclyde Learning Disability and Social Opportunity service provides a range of personalised support options to help individuals with learning disabilities and autism gain access to opportunities within the local community.
Social Opportunities
The Social Opportunities service offers a variety of support to access activities ranging from individual assistance to more informal facilitated support. The support is flexible and support plans are agreed in accordance with the individual’s needs and wishes. Some of the support options individuals may choose are:
- Courses and activities at local colleges and further education centres
- Employment opportunities and volunteer placements
- Leisure and educational opportunities available at local community centres
- Sporting and training opportunities through a local sports centre, swimming pool or sporting organisation
- Opportunities in the creative arts accessed through local theatres, arts societies and other cultural bodies.
Supported Living
This service supports people to move into their own accommodation within the community. Service users can choose to live in their own tenancy or a shared tenancy. We use a person centred approach to help meet the needs, interests, hopes and expectations of the people who use our service.
All our service users have:
- A support agreement
- Support plans detailing their needs, wants and wishes
- Key workers who coordinate their support
- A key to their own house
- Their own bedroom
- Their own tenancy agreement
- Individualised support in areas such as accessing healthcare and carrying out everyday household tasks
Referrals to Social Opportunities and Supported Living can be made through Inverclyde Council. Enquiries about both services can be made to the services themselves, however funding for Supported Living is determined by the local authority.
