“Have just started going to CARS and really loving it. Already it’s doing me so much good and giving me a more positive outlook.”
The Community Addiction Recovery Service (CARS) works with people affected by substance misuse and their families across Edinburgh to take steps towards recovery. Each individual will create a personalised recovery action plan which will detail how that person wishes to work towards their recovery and the goals they want to achieve along the way.
The service is open to men and women aged 16 and over who are aware they have a substance misuse problem and would like to start their recovery journey.
Services which can form part of your recovery plan include:
- An allocated key worker for each service user
- Weekly one to one recovery sessions
- A three phase, supported recovery group
- Confidence and self esteem building course
- Green Fingers gardening project
- Cooking classes
- Creative classes
- Acupuncture
- Computing groups
- Peer to peer recovery groups
- Service user forums
CARS aims to increase the psychological well-being of those who use the service and to reduce offending by addressing any offending behaviours.
Individuals will receive support to explore their recovery options whilst working alongside other agencies, recovery communities, families, carers and other relevant groups.
Those who use the service will also be encourages and supported to improve and maintain relationships with family, friends and the community.
Referrals
Anyone can refer themselves – you will then be invited to a pre-assessment meeting. This will allow you to meet us and a service user already on the programme, find out more about how we could help and decide whether or not our programme is right for you. An external agency can also make a referral on someone’s behalf. Contact us for a referral form.
