Our first services in Dumfries and Galloway opened in 1999 for people moving out of hospital and into their own purpose built homes. Turning Point Scotland now provides a range of support at home services across the greater part of Dumfries & Galloway: Stranraer, Newton Stewart, Kirkcudbright, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas, Inner and outer Dumfries area and Annan.

The service provides support for adults who have a learning disability, autism or acquired brain injury.  Some of the people who choose our support also have fluctuating mental health or physical impairments.

We continue to grow and develop these services by working in partnership with the right people to create individual and tailor made support packages.

We recognise the importance of attaining high standards and continusously improving our service delivery.

Our aim is to provide a high quality service which:

  • Is tailored to the needs of the individual
  • Supports the individual to develop their full potential
  • Accords individuals respect and dignity
  • Ensures that individuals exercise informed choice, within proper safeguards
  • Enables individuals to become active and valued members of their local community
  • Promotes the realisation of individual dreams and aspirations

Turning Point Scotland Dumfries & Galloway works in partnership with families, care managers, health professionals, housing providers and a range of other agencies to ensure that individuals’ needs are accurately assessed. We then ensure that this assessment is translated into a comprehensive support plan which is regularly reviewed and updated.  The individual is at the centre of this process, and is encouraged to contribute at every stage.

We can provide support in a range of settings: from individual tenancy, to small shared tenancy, to family home.  Depending on assessed need and your choice of care, the support we can provide may range from between a few hours a week to 24 hours a day.

This service supports people in many areas of their lives including:

  • Leisure activities
  • Managing money
  • Maintaining a home
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Relationships
  • Domestic skills
  • Personal care
  • Health & wellbeing
